You will know them by their fruit. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? __ Matthew 7:16 (MEV)
In the Bible, fruit represents our character. Our fruit, what we produce, is determined by the way we behave, our actions, and our attitudes. Do we have the integrity to do what we said we would do? Do we mistreat other people? Do we walk in love and forgive others?
The same way you can’t pick grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, you cannot expect good character or good fruit from a bad tree. In other words, you can’t expect a person who does not have good character to exhibit good behavior. A tree is known by its fruit. Just as a tree cannot produce fruit that is not of its kind, neither can we produce good fruit if we are not a good person or a person of integrity. We can only produce fruit in our lives that is in agreement with our character. So go out today and bear good fruit!
Prayer: Lord, I ask You to help me to be the type of tree that bears good fruit. Help me to represent You well and be a light in darkness everywhere I go. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
